Jay Cresswell
Jay has been playing guitar since the age of 8 and performing live gigs from the age of 13. His initial move into the world of music was a duo by the name of 'Lifestyle'? Nice! This duo consisted of Jay on Guitar and Vocals and Gavin Webb, best friend at the time, on an electric Simmons kit. The duo came to an abrupt end one night, when the homemade P.A. system literally fell to pieces half way through a rendition of 'Needles and Pins' by the Searchers. Fortunately, they got paid for the gig! Many bands into the future saw Jay taking up bass guitar after a meet with one Mr John Giblin of Simple Minds/Kate bush fame.
This meet inspired Jay to move to bass guitar on a more permanent basis, which proved to be a bit of a turning point in playing live. Adopting an Edwards/King/Flea style of playing, Jay toured the UK, Germany and Holland with a funk rock band called 'Spank the Monkey', who had little success but were know widely for their live performances, and dodgy fashion sense. This band came to an end after a period of about 4 years and Jay carried on writing and performing new material with the Vocalist. Presently when not playing with The Catfish, Jay records and plays material with a band called 'Taylor's Lounge' who have very much an American influence and is having some success on American radio.
